Dispersed camping

If you’re not a risk taker and even if you are, lol It’s always a good idea to Contact the local Forest Service or State Park office to see if any restrictions (like fire restrictions) are in place. This includes finding out if campfires and/or open stoves are permitted – in California especially But most of the West, dry conditions can easily catch and flames as well as sparks of any sort are could start forest fires. At Rest stops and day use areas, Ground tents are occasionally not allowed. this could include some federal lands. There is also usually a 14-16 day limit on staying in the same campsite location without a break in a 30-day period.

The sun setting through a dense forest.
Wind turbines standing on a grassy plain, against a blue sky.

Hammocks are sometimes not permitted without tree protecting straps, which unlike para-cord metal carabiners and chains can cut into and scar the tree’s bark.
